Theatre is like any other fine art but at the same time, it’s not. When one thinks of the word art, they usually think of painting or music. Normally, their first thought isn’t theatre, which makes theatre sound abstract compared to something like sculpture.
Theatre is very important to many people for many reasons. According to Jeff Robbins, a teacher at Collierville High School, he believes that theatre is a type of art that is noteworthy due to it being a “vehicle for history.” Theatre allows people to convey a story in an artistic way without doing things like drawing or making music. Theatre can also help people in many ways. It can help people with stage-fright or people who have a fear of public speaking overcome their fears. Therefore, Theatre is a very important fine art, and it doesn’t require someone to have any form of artistic ability.
Jeff Robbins is a teacher who has been teaching for twelve years at Collierville High School. Mr. Robbins teaches Intro to Theatre, Film History, and coaches Speech and Debate. He enjoys watching, directing, and helping with the production of a play. According to Collierville High School’s website, he’s “also proud to be an alumni of Collierville High School’s theatre and forensics program.” Mr. Robbins has three degrees from Lindenwood University; a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre, a Master of Arts (MA) in Directing, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science. He is currently working on setting up auditions for an upcoming play called Twelve Angry jurors.
Twelve Angry Jurors is a play about a man that had to go to trial for the unpleasant passing of his father. According to Collierville High School’s website, the case seems to be straightforward “-until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts.” The testimonies then must be looked at again, which causes arguments, one thing leading to another. The final verdict from the jurors’ and the decision-making process will make everyone sit on the edge of their seats in suspense. Auditions for this suspenseful play will be Tuesday, February 24th for monologues and callbacks will be Wednesday, February 25th. The play will be performed April 30th to May 3rd, 2026.
Ultimately, theatre shows beyond a doubt that it is more than an art; it’s a type of art that goes beyond fine art’s traditional barriers. Although theatre shares the innovative ideas of music and sculpture, its collaborative, giving it something that other fine arts cannot do. Theatre transcends standard fine art boundaries while simultaneously staying affiliated with the many other types of Fine Art.
