Many students at Collierville High School know the name Kate Cantrell long before they know her personally. Her involvement stretches across many school-associated programs such as Student Government Association (SGA), Best Buddies, Beta Club, the JV tennis team, Opportunity Bridge, National Honors and National Technical Society, among many others. Through these roles, Kate has had numerous meaningful impacts on the school community. For instance, the spike in attendance at Pep Rallies and Homecoming, as well as student involvement in Angel Tree, Make-A-Wish and other donation opportunities can be attributed to Kate’s work and efforts, alongside the teamwork of other students.
Additionally, her influence extends far beyond the walls of CHS. She enjoys serving in religious activities such as being on the Leadership team for St. Patrick’s Presbyterian Church in Collierville, acting as an ambassador in Younglife, whilst working as a leader on the organization’s other clubs–Wyldlife for middle schoolers, and Capernaum for those with special needs. Kate also performs as a current member of Leadership Collierville, further contributing to her constant and consistent commitment and dedication to public service.
However, when she isn’t doing something for the school or community, she implements her energy into indulging in a broad range of hobbies for her benefit. Such hobbies include horseback riding, reading, and baking. Beyond her personal interests, she also applies time for friends and family, as she finds pleasure in spending time with her siblings, along with hosting social events and gatherings, such as holiday parties and YL club.
While she indulges in a multitude of organizations, Kate prefers to be recognized for who she is, rather than what she does, as she emphasizes her participation in these associations for the people, and the impact, rather than participation. Furthermore, Kate states that she wants to be known as someone who is “compassionate and treats others with equality and kindness.”
All in all, Kate’s presence and impact on Collierville extends far beyond what she does; her strong impact is rooted in the steady care and humanity by which she treats others and implements in all that she participates in. Whether she is leading in school, church or in her growing community, Kate prioritizes her personal effect on others and their effect on her. Her involvement is extensive and continuous; but it is her character and her strong-willed desire to uplift others and create meaningful connections that truly defines her impact.
