Baseball is sport loved by many in high school. Those who play and do not play but enjoys watching and supporting the team. Besides the players are the coaches, who teaches them all the skills they need. Among the coaches is coach Carl Harken, who dedicates his time to the sport.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carl Harken, 38, is a lifetime sports and U.S. Government teacher. He also is the Collierville High School Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach.
Harken graduated from not only Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but also Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. A well-educated coach here at Collierville High School. Although he puts frequent time into baseball, he equally puts time into his personal life outside the sport.
Harken claims “being present in the moment” is the best way to keep his coaching and personal life balanced. “Easy-going and laidback” is how he would himself besides others’ opinions. Coach Harken is also thoughtful as one of his goals/dreams is wanting to “see players succeed outside of the sport.” To him, an advantage to coaching is, “developing different relationships with players and a disadvantage is being away from home” says Harken. What are his motivations on may ask, and Harken’s answer would be, “having new players every new season.”
Furthermore, Harken enjoys being a coach as he says “it’s easy” to manage, and “my [his] father” is the person who inspired him to get into baseball while growing up in Iowa. Harken notes that “family” is responsible for the person he has become today. Family is a very large part to Coach Harken as he emphasizes his family “shapes everything” in his life. “Raising my two daughters and spending the day with my daughters and wife” are some things he enjoys doing when not coaching baseball.
Overall, Carl Harken is a remarkable person. An excellent coach, father, husband, and son for all the important people in his life. His dedication for everything and everyone around him shapes him to be the best version of himself. He wants to see others succeed in life and fulfill their goals. Carl Harken is a charming, well-rounded, kind-hearted, hardworking, and easy-going person. A great addition to have here at Collierville High School.
