It’s a common misconception that high school clubs wrap up when the final bell rings, but for the members of the Collierville High School Grillers Club, the commitment goes way past sundown, often leaving them in a cloud of smoke and the aroma of sauce until midnight.
Located right here in Collierville, Tennessee, this club is all about the serious business of food and competition. Led by Coach Joseph White, whom is also a history teacher, these students are learning more than just the basics of working the grill. They are practicing dedication, teamwork, and preparing for the world of competitive grilling.
The proof is in the baked beans. Club member Anthony Bearden, who won a 2nd place award for his baked beans, knows firsthand the long hours these competitions demand. “I’ve had times where I left competitions at midnight,” he shared, highlighting the intense dedication required.
This is a group that knows how to bring home a win. They excelled in the Bologna competition, proving their skills go beyond a simple pool party barbecue. When they aren’t on the competition circuit, you can find them serving up their meals at the school’s home football games, feeding the hungry students and marking the club as a staple at CHS football games.
The Collierville Grillers Club is proof to the fact that passion can turn into serious achievements, blending the fun of cooking with the intensity of competition.
