As we head into Week 12 of the college football season, the race to the postseason is heating up.
The playoff bracket will be finalized on Selection Sunday, December 7th. Let’s break down what you need to know:
Right now, Ohio State sits atop the CFP rankings with a perfect 9-0 record, followed closely by Indiana, Texas A&M, and Alabama. These four are currently projected to earn first-round byes, but nothing is guaranteed. A single loss could shake up the entire bracket.
Teams like Georgia, Oregon, and Ole Miss are also in the mix, while South Florida and Texas Tech are fighting to stay in the top 12. The Memphis Tigers are now on the outside looking in as they lost their second game to Tulane on Friday.
First-round games kick off December 19th and 20th and will be played on campus sites, giving higher seeds a home-field advantage.
Quarterfinals are set for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Semifinals will be played January 8th and 9th.
The National Championship Game takes place Monday, January 9th in Miami, Florida and will air on ESPN.
These next few weeks are critical. Head-to-head matchups and Conference championships will determine who gets in, and who gets left out.
Alabama still has two SEC games to play and must win out to secure a top-4 seed. Oregon has 3 tough conference games left, starting with Minnesota this Friday at 8PM on FOX. (1) Ohio State still has a tough rivalry game looming at the end of their schedule against Michigan who they have lost to 4 years in a row. That game will be played on November 29th at 11AM on FOX. The Georgia Bulldogs play at their ranked cross-town rival Georgia Tech to end their year on Friday, November 28th at 2:30PM on ABC.
ESPN will air 9 of the 11 playoff games, with ABC and TNT Sports covering the rest.
