If someone were to guess what the highest paying jobs are, they would probably guess lawyers, doctors, and political positions. Why do these three careers stereotype as high paying jobs? Additionally, someone might wonder, what qualities do people in those jobs have that let them get paid more or less? The answer is: schooling. The lowest paid people are generally people who only go to high school and do not attend college. The highest paid people usually have doctorate degrees in their field, and that is what brings them to get paid so much.
According to the “Investopedia” website, the highest paying jobs are cardiologists. Cardiologists make approximately $354,000 each year. Cardiologists, or heart doctors, have high salaries due to how critical it is for heart surgeries to be successful. Cardiologists must have years and years of training before they are allowed to preform surgeries. In order to become a cardiologist, people must have their medical doctorate degree and a fellowship in cardiology. Patients are willing to pay high amounts of money to ensure that they get the best doctors to perform surgery on their heart, which is why cardiologists get paid so much.
On the other hand, “The Balance” states that the lowest paying jobs in the U.S. are shampooers, cooks, and hosts at restaurants. “Shampooers massage, shampoo, condition, and rinse customers’ hair,” “The Balance” explains. The tasks that shampooers execute are the same tasks that most people usually do at home. It is a simple job that does not need any pre-qualification. Most shampooers do not have any college degree, so they are not paid as much as a job that requires a college degree. On average, shampooers make about $22,000 a year. Along the same line, most cooks also do not need a college degree, and that is because cooking is another job that most people do at home. For the more common jobs, workers generally get paid less.
In order to make a lot of money, it is recommended for a person to attend college and get at least a bachelor’s degree. However, some jobs, such as mechanics, technicians, military servicepeople, plumbers, and professional drivers are all jobs that do not need a degree, but they still make plenty of money. “Indeed” explains how “truck drivers travellong distances to deliver goods, pick up goods from suppliers, and verify loads for accuracy.” They make an average of $93,000 per year. The more dangerous jobs (like welding) or time consuming jobs (like truck driving) generally pay more than the simple jobs (like massagers).
Also, just because some online articles state that these jobs are the highest and lowest paying jobs does not mean that it is necessarily true. There are always going to be anomalies, and some job payments might change over time. Ultimately, the more education a person receives, the higher they will get paid, but someone can still make plenty of money with only a high school diploma.
